Organic LED’s are seen as the display technology of the future mainly because of the cost factor which is way cheaper than current display technologies. With the old and reliable CRT on its way out, slowly being replaced first by plasma and then LCD’s, the evolution of technology makes life easier and a whole lot lighter.
One of the enticing facts about OLED’s is the ability to print one out with a device as simple as your desktop printer, further processed into any shape of display that can be thought of.
Th technology has already been showcased by Samsung in their AMOLED Omnia series of mobile phones and they have announced an AMOLED display or TV later this year. One enticing concept of such a diverse display technology is that it can be made into flexible displays. Out on the market, OLED lighting fixtures are slowly getting out for use on the market and by the end of this year, more plans are out for ambitious displays. A feasible and commercial scale display manufacturing technologies are still years away but the concepts and applications are so unlimited even Sony has accepted OLED’s as the next big step in display technologies.
